Book an Author Visit

Bring creativity and inspiration to your school or library with an engaging author visit!

I offer school visits, assemblies, and workshops focused on creative writing, tailored to suit classes or large groups. Using my books as a starting point, we explore new ideas, spark imagination, and encourage students to develop their own creative voices.

I also do library visits, creating interactive sessions that celebrate storytelling and the power of words.

Conway School, Birmingham

I had the best time at Conway School in Sparkhill, Birmingham for World Book Day.

I read We Are Here to a huge assembly of incredibly polite and engaged children. I then led on five workshops with different classes and it was incredible to see the children writing so imaginatively and effectively.

The focus was empathy, and the children really demonstrated their immense ability to empathise with people going through unimaginably difficult situations.

It really was a huge privilege to spend time with the student and teachers at Conway School.

The Benefits of an Author Visit to a School

Inviting an author to your school can be a transformative experience for students, sparking creativity, boosting confidence and fostering a love for reading and writing. Here are some key benefits:

1. Inspires a Love for Reading

Meeting a real author makes books come to life. Students see firsthand the excitement behind storytelling, which can motivate them to read more and explore different genres.

2. Encourages Creativity and Imagination

Through workshops and discussions, students learn how stories are created, sparking their own ideas and encouraging them to experiment with writing.

3. Builds Confidence in Writing

An author visit can help students see writing as an exciting and accessible skill rather than a challenge. By engaging in activities and learning writing techniques, they gain the confidence to express their own ideas.

4. Enhances Literacy Skills

Listening to an author discuss the writing process helps students develop a deeper understanding of language, storytelling structure, and vocabulary, improving their literacy skills.

5. Promotes Empathy and Different Perspectives

Many authors share stories that explore diverse themes, cultures, and experiences. This helps students connect with different perspectives and develop empathy through literature.

6. Makes Learning Engaging and Fun

An author visit is a break from routine lessons, offering an interactive, hands-on learning experience that captivates students and makes education feel exciting.

7. Encourages Aspiring Writers

Meeting an author shows students that writing isn’t just something done in school—it can be a lifelong passion or even a career. It can be especially inspiring for young people who dream of telling their own stories.

8. Creates a Lasting Impact

A memorable author visit can leave a lasting impression, with students often continuing to read, write, and engage with literature long after the visit ends.

By bringing an author into the school, educators provide students with a unique opportunity to connect with books, develop their creativity, and discover the power of storytelling.
